Did it take courage to bowl alone?
Lucia liked to think so. Not that team work wasn't important or anything, it was more that it was a challenge for Lucia to be solitary. For her, the difference between alone and lonely was slim, and it took very little to sway over the line. Not to mention, she totally believed in working together. But today, she liked being alone. It made her feel brave, as if it really were some courageous act. Like suffering in silence. Like a test.
And she was passing with flying colors...
In terms of beating loneliness anyway; she was fairly atrocious at bowling. Her score left much to be desired but she was having fun. That was all that mattered to her. So she danced along to the poor sound system, singing along to the words she could hear, if she could recognize them, sometimes just making up words as she went along. Whoever said necessity was the mother of invention had it wrong, boredom was. There was nothing like complete and utter boredom to make you get creative, in Lucia's experience anyway.
So at this point she was bowling with her eyes closed, just for fun. She'd gotten the ball stuck in other lanes a few times, but it was worth it on the whole. She'd already done it backwards, and upside down. Lucia liked change, contrary to most. Things that never grew or morphed were boring, like a rut. And why not change the simple things, so you can put all your security in big unchanging things, like family or love.
As her game ended, she blew a few stay blonde hairs out of her eyes as she went back up to the desk to buy another game or two. She had no plans for today, and she planned to keep trying to win. A boy was ahead of her in line, a couple in front of him. So she leaned back on her heels, waiting. Her bright eyes observing quietly as the short time passed.

Sherry waited in line for his chance to buy a game at Rocky Lanes Bowling Alley. Why he was there, he didn't know. In actuality, he hated being alone doing anything, but he needed to get out of the house, away from his parents. They were fighting again, about him. He didn't need that. On top of everything else that had happened, the last thing he needed was to hear them fight.
So here he was, at the town bowling alley, in line, waiting to purchase a game.
He leaned out of the line a bit, checking to see how long he had until it was his turn. There were five or six people in front of him. "What a drag," Sherry said to no one in particular. He hated stasis, it annoyed him. "I guess there's one way to solve this." The smile that leapt across Sherry's face was gone almost as immediately as it had come.
Along with the rest of his body.
A moment later, Sherry materialized at the front of the line, the next person up. If the attendant had noticed, she didn't show it.
"One game, please."

Lucia heard the boy in front of her say something. "What a drag." he was completely correct about that. Lucia hated lines. Not that she was an instant gratification nut or anything, but Lucia liked to move. Stillness was like being lonely. She liked to be busy with something, anything at all. Then the boy ahead of her made no sense to her and she almost asked aloud how he planned to fix this when he promptly disappeared. Only to pop up a second later in front of the line.
She laughed lightly, eyes twinkling. Some were timid about showing their powers, even though most people in town had them. The humans who lived in town were usually related to a mutant or two, or some escaped convict who wouldn't bother to complain because they didn't want police finding them. She admired his pluck just the same. For a moment, she bounced on her heels, but it took her barely a second to decide she wanted to talk to the boy.
So Lucia dashed out of line to join him. "Hey Ernie," She addressed the man behind the counter, sticking her money on the counter. "Put him in my line. i could use some competition." She said with a smile, turning to face the teleporter... or whatever he was.... He was decently cute from the front. He had been from the back as well. "You wouldn't mind would you? I guarantee I'm terrible, you're sure to win." Lucia said, leaning on the counter, waiting for a reply.

Well, she was cute. Sherry gave her an encouraging smile. "No, I don't mind," he said. He looked back to the man standing next to the girl he had been talking to. "Ernie, eh? Pair of shoes, size 12, please."
"Sure, no problem." Ernie said. He disappeared behind some shelves and reappeared again with a pair of blue bowling shoes. Sherry looked back to the girl.
"Ready to be destroyed?" he asked, playfully. He walked over to their assigned lane and did a funny little pivot on his right foot, turning to the girl once more. "By the way, I never got your name."

Lucia watched him carefully and let him lead the way. She laughed as he spun on his heel. No wonder guys did things like that, they took the laughter as flirting.... but really Lucia was thinking of how silly it was for him to already be trying to impress her. Boys were so typical. They probably didn't even realize it. She gave him a smile and flipped her hair over one shoulder, batting her eyelashes jokingly. "Lucia." She offered a wink and stuck her name into the system.
"And you?" She asked, slender fingers poised above the keys. Her blue eyes watched him carefully. Honestly, she was trying to guess his age. Not like it was terribly important or anything, but it was just something you did. Besides, you couldn't flirt before you knew if someone was too young or too old for you.
Lucia would probably end up doing it without meaning to flirt. He was a boy, she was a girl, it was just how it worked. "Or shall i just call you teleporter, or....invisible boy?" One of those had to be his power, otherwise, what he did in line would make absolutely no sense to her. Her eyes were twinkling with the excitement of a new person, she liked people. She put too much power in their hands over her world, but it was alright, most people didn't mess it all up. Though there were a few that did just that.
So far, he seemed just fine.

A wink. She was playing his game. The silly grin on Sherry's face grew even wider. He studied the girl even more closely. The way she flipped her hair was, simply put, hot. Her steely, gray eyes perfectly complimented by her yellowish-blonde hair. And her lips... well, let's just say this was Sherry's kind of girl.
"And you?", she asked, "Or can I just call you teleporter or..." she paused and looked at him out of the corner of her eye. "Invisible boy?"
Oh. So she'd seen. Oh well, not like it was a problem. Judging by the lack of surprise on her part, she probably had an ability herself. That was what this town was known for by its residents, anyway- power. Whether or not they were blessings or curses was up to the wielder to decide. Sherry liked his ability, he didn't look at it as a blessing or a curse. It just was. Most people would have, right off the bat, said blessing.
Not Sherry.
That was in part because of the way his power had been discovered, and in part because the manifestation of his power was almost the manifestation of his worst nightmare: disappearing from the world in everyone's eyes, but still being aware of everything around him. The worst kind of lonely.
Regardless, Sherry had come to like his ability, becoming more familiar with it, and eventually learning its true nature.
After that, he used his ability more willingly and increasingly, learned to control it, until he could disappear at the drop of a dime, even faster.
His mind came back to the present, to Lucia. "The name's Faust- Sherry Faust." he said, jokingly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lucia. Lucia. What a nice name." Still smiling he continued, "As for my power... you're good. It's invisibility. You got an ability yourself, Lucia?" he said, letting her name linger.

Lucia smiled patiently as she waited for a reply, and when it came she chuckled lightly. Faust, Sherry Faust. And into the machine she typed in Agent006 for his name, since Bond was 007 of course. She got up and grabbed a pink ball, those were the lightest after all, and it wasn't like she was the female version of the hulk. She could win at arm wrestling though, on occasion. She didn't bowl though, she was still facing her new companion.
"Thanks," She said when he told her that she had a pretty name. "Mind if I call you Faust? Sherry.... makes me think of what my dad drinks when he's had a long day, plus, Faust is just more... hot sounding." She said looking over her shoulder at him as she turned and slid the ball neatly down the lane. Lucia leaned back regarding its trajectory as it went along, colliding with 5 of the pins.
"Yeah, I have a power." She said walking back to get her ball, tucking it under her arm. She wasn't sure how she could use it here though, without scaring people of course. "Manipulation of light." Lucia said with a smile, and the room dimmed slightly and she was in a spotlight. After a slight bow, the light went back to normal and she slid the ball along the lane again.
Gutter ball.

"No, I don't mind." Sherry said eagerly. She could call him boulder head and he'd still answer. After typing in "Agent006", she confessed to him that she too had an ability.
Suddenly the lights in the entire complex dimmed slightly, and was focused through one bulb- the one that Lucia was standing right under. She had created a kind of spotlight for herself. With a certain, admirable grace, Lucia bowed slightly. And then, just like that, the lights in the complex were restored to normalcy. Sherry was very, very impressed, which was probably obvious from his agape mouth. Lucia smiled, turned around, and slid the ball down the lane.
Gutter ball.
"I thought you said you were good..." Sherry teased. He then proceeded to roll his own ball down the lane.
He scored a gutter ball as well. Laughing weakly he continued, "... and I probably shouldn't talk." It was Lucia's turn again. Sherry sat down on one of the hard blue chairs stationed in front of the alley as he waited for Lucia.
Of course, while waiting, he was also admiring her.

Lucia laughed. "You heard wrong Faust, I told you I was terrible and that you would win. However, you are not off to a great start Mr. Bond." She teased lightly. Her grin seemed to be stuck to her face as she turned and got three pins down the first time around. It was funny to her, the situation. Any girl flirted and tried to look their best around a guy, any guy. One they had known for five years or five minutes. A girl always wanted to seem attractive and make it look easy. Sometimes though, it was easy. Now was easy. She didn't even feel like she was trying. Maybe because she sort of acted this way around everyone. Only with other girls she could add more sexual innuendos because they wouldn't be taken as hints.... ah well.
Off to a good start.
She watched him watch her as she retrieved the ball and sent the marble sphere down again. Much to her surprise, she got a spare and jumped about a foot in the air. "Did you see that!" She said excitedly, turning around, her eyes all lit up like she'd gotten proposed to with a huge ring, or had seen Rockafeller center at christmas for the first time---neither of which had ever really happened to her, but you get the idea.
Lucia started too jump, but when she decided that was too vigorous she just sort of pulled her arms up close to her chest and shook and basically bounced over and fell into the seat beside him. She didn't dare look at him though, her cheeks bright pink and she bit her lip to hide a grin. She had always been excitable, but it still felt utterly embarrassing.

"If you're so bad, why do you play?" Sherry asked. He knew his reasons for coming to the alley that day, but not hers. Being a bad player, bowling was not something that it seemed she'd be interested in for any reason.
Not that he had anything to complain about. He was thoroughly enjoying her company, more than she knew.
She let another ball fly- spare! She began to jump around excitedly, laughing and giggling all the while! Sherry watched her in astonishment. Damn, she's cute, he thought. Probably having noticed that Sherry was watching her, she calmed herself down a bit, not flailing wildly, like before, but now holding her hands to her chest as if to physically contain it. She did a slight hop over to the seat next to Sherry's and fell into it- but she didn't look at him. Her face flushed red and her eyes were downcast.
She was embarrassed! Sherry grinned widely at her and got up.
He threw his glossed sphere down the lane, twisting his wrist a bit, as he had seen some players do, before he let it go. It rolled, rolled...
Strike!
Sherry let out a high-pitched yelp of excitement and immediately covered his mouth. He then looked over at Sherry who seemed to be slightly amused and less embarrassed. "I didn't mean to do that," he laughed weakly. Of course, he was lying. She squealed like a girl on purpose in order to make her feel like she wasn't, in fact, the weirdest person at the Rock Lanes.
That title rightfully belonged to him, he thought with a chuckle.

Lucia laughed. "I came for something to do." Truth. But really, she came to test her limits, to be around people and still be alone. Which was a real chore for her. She hated being alone. But maybe that answer made her seem like she had nothing better to do that something she was bad at.... of course, practice was the only way to get better. But whatever... She was so into her own thoughts for once that she completely missed what happened until she heard a squeak.
Her blue eyes darted to the scoreboard, X---strike. And her lips pulled into a grin. She doubted that sound came from him unwillingly, and maybe it was for her benefit, but she said nothing. She was only embarrassed because of him, she didn't give a damn about the other people there. She got up and chuckled slightly, shaking her head. "Mr. Faust, you may win at bowling, but girly screaming? You ain't seen nothing yet." She smiled, passing close to him and grabbing the ball.
She walked up to the lane, cocked her hip to one side and watching the pro bowler in a lane nearby, she copied his movements rather fluidly and managed to get nine pins down. And on the next roll, she missed. But it didn't matter. She spun on her heel, mimicking him from earlier and met him half way, sticking the ball in his hands. In reality, it was just an excuse to get a closer look at him.

As Lucia handed him the ball, she seemed to stare at him for a brief, but noticeable, amount of time. He pretended not to notice as he walked by.
But he wanted to study her too. Of course, stopping to stare at her as she stared at him would just lead to a moment of awkwardness, which he would rather avoid. Stepping to the lane, he glimpsed backwards quickly.
She was still staring. He turned back and rolled the ball.
8 pins! He rolled again and managed to pick up a spare. He rose to full height with a grin on his face and turned to Lucia. "Well, you win in the girl scream department, but it seems I have this game in the bag, uh?" He picked the next ball up and walked back over to where Lucia sat. Holding out the ball for her he said, "I do believe it is your turn, ma'am." in the funniest British accent he could muster without cracking up. Sherry did weird things like that. He had no idea why. Sometimes he found himself rather embarrassing, but he couldn't stop.
Sometimes he thought time travel would be a way more useful ability to have. But then he remembered all the fun he had with invisibility, and all of a sudden chrono-kinesis did not seem as appealing.
Regardless, he stood there, hand outstretched toward Lucia, who wore a giddy expression on her face, waiting for her to take the ball.

Lucia watched him bowl, trying to figure out just what made him so good. Was it in his wrist, his shoulder, his elbow, his hips, his position? She hadn't even realized she was staring as she looked him up and down from behind, trying to decide what made him a good bowler. And when Sherry was in from of her, speaking in a fake accent she let out a giggle.
Boys could be so cute.
She took the ball from him gingerly, making sure to brush his hand lightly as she did so. Touching was always the best flirting. It didn't matter how you did it. Lucia didn't look back as she went up to the lane and she set up her shot with very good focus, but then a song she knew came on the sound system and she started to shake her hips to the music and let the ball go. Decent shot. As was her next. She didn't matter how she did at this point, as long as Faust didn't think she was crazy, or weird or something. Sometimes boys found her too much... or too 'blonde'.
Lucia went back to Faust and stood in front of him, head tilted to one side, still holding the ball in her hands, spinning it absentmindedly. "So Faust, there's not enough talk going on here, I don't just want to leave her having bowled with a stranger, I want to leave with a friend. So tell me about yourself." She requested, handing him the ball.
