Sure, she knew him well enough to know how stubborn Adam was, but Maddie still sort of thought he might have been bluffing. She'd wondered if he would have run away once he realized just what she was capable of. But he didn't. He seemed resolute in his decision, and she fought the urge to jump up and down in triumph. A bright smile crossed her face and she bit her lower lip, not sure if she ought to say anything about how glad she was for his support.
The moment Adam's eyes turned away from her (he knew her too well for her to risk such thoughts while he was paying attention), Maddie smiled. Did that mean his feelings were as strong as hers? Maybe she was just wishful thinking, but it did seem to make sense.
A tiny, delighted yip escaped her lips just as Adam turned around, and Maddie blushed deep pink. "Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere," she assured him, her bright blue eyes focusing on her feet. "C'mon. We've got a lot of catching up to do!"
