Dear Jimmy O'Bed,
I am so excited to be your penpal! I like that we both have O' names. The program says you are from South Dakota. I've never been there, although I've been to the States. Have you ever seen any buffalo? I'm not entirely sure how to end this letter. We will hopefully have more to talk about in the future! I look forward to your letter!

Hi Nod O'Thing
I'm also glad to have a pen pal! And isn't it weird that we're both O'Somethings? I was actually born in Ireland, which explains the name, but I've lived in South Dakota since I was a kid. Long enough that I've lost my accent, in fact. And yes, I have seen buffalo. I'll have to send you a photo the next time I see one. I'll also awkwardly end this letter now.
Your pal, Jimmy

Jimmy,
How interesting! I love that we are both from Ireland, even if you have lost your accent. You might have to come visit some time and regain your accent. I'm looking forward to your buffalo photo. I would hate to end the conversation here, so I'll ask a question. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Looking forward to your next letter, Nod

Hi Nod,
I spend my spare time hanging out with my friends, playing video games and reading comics. I really like The Revengers and my favourite character is Captain Freedom. My other favourite comics include Arachnidboy, Batfellow and Cheap Trick: Busted. I also work at Starbucks which is a drag but at least I get some spending money! How about you? What hobbies are you into and do you have an after school job?
Your pal, Jimmy

Dear Jimmy,
I like the Revengers too! My favorite would probably be Warren Harding. I don't read too many other comics, but I have read a couple Arachnidboy comics and I like him too. I work at a pub, bartending. It's not too bad of a job and it certainly gives me some interesting stories! I'm sure Starbucks give you some stories too. Do you have any pets? I don't have any because both of my parents are allergic to most pets. I do plan on getting one when I move out, though.

Dear Nod
Bartending sounds like a neat job. I bet it's more interesting than Starbucks. It took me a moment to realise you meant the comic book character Hardy when you said Warren Harding! We've been studying the Teapot Dome Scandal in History class so I thought of the President. I have two pets, a dog called Clay and a cat called Antoinette. Well, Clay is the family dog, Antoinette belongs to my little sister. It's sad that you don't have pets, but maybe one day you'll get some! I suggest a dog, you can do lots of fun stuff with them. I often take Clay to the park to play fetch and stuff like that.
Your buddy Jimmy

Dear Jimmy,
I should have said Hardy! I remember when I looked William Harding up and all I got were results for the President! I was going to ask if he was a good President, but I suppose if he had a scandal that wouldn't be so good. How great that you have two pets! I am thinking that if I move to a flat I should get a French Bulldog. I would love to kick around a smaller football with a dog. Hopefully I can get one that allows dogs! If not, I may start with a fish. Maybe a goldfish named Pete.

Dear Nod
Yes, we learned in History that Warren Harding was not a very good President. I was shocked because I assumed he'd be great if Hardy was named after him! And French Bulldogs are great, I hope you do get one. That would be really cool.

Dear Jimmy,
How strange! I wonder if there are any connections between Hardy and the President. If you learn more about William Harding, you'll have to be sure to compare the two.

Dear Nod
We're finishing our Warren Harding (I notice you keep calling him William?) unit next week so I'll be sure to tell you anything I learn that reminds me of Hardy. Last class we listened to a song about him by Al Stewart, mostly because everyone was asleep and we couldn't do any proper work. Oops!
Your pal, Jimmy
